Smoothcursor only working sometimes9/21/2023 To begin the process, follow the steps below: Doing so will refresh the faulty configuration that may have been causing the issue.Click the “Customize and Control Google Chrome” icon on your browser.Well - took mine in and had an Apple Genius look at it. They ran some sort of hardware diagnostic that you can't get to as a consumer (a large image representing a trackpad appeared on the screen and he ran his finger all around on it - turning the screen from Grey to Green. I basically got the "see if you can document the problem better and bring it back" solution. They did request I turn off SmoothCursor - which I use to adjust the acceleration profile between using as a laptop and when I'm in my Henge dock on a 32" monitor. But the settings are stock when I'm not docked, so I'm doubtful.ĭoing some of my own troubleshooting. It looks like the palm rejection works fine. If my palm brushes the trackpad while typing the cursor doesn't move (and in fact the cursor bar disappears. What it looks like might be happening is that the the finger tip rejection is not working while you are actively typing. If I just type random letters with my left hand and then touch the trackpad with my right thumb, the cursor bar will move but the typing cursor location will stay put. ![]() So not only is this a rejection issue but it looks like the "double tap" to relocate cursor is being activated when the erroneous movement happens. My suggestion is that everyone call/chat with support and reference this thread. When I mentioned the thread to the chat agent, I got the canned "We have over 300 million devices out there and people often post to the community forums before they contact us" response. The Apple Genius said the next steps would be to restore my laptop to stock (which I did by the way because the day I got it the FileVault boot sequence fell over and I had to do an internet restore) and then if it still did it (and I could show them it was doing it) they would replace the trackpad. ![]() If I hadn't needed more disk storage and memory for certain applications, I would have been perfectly happy with my perfectly working previous MBP. ![]() I bought a 12" 2015 Macbook on New Year's Day and loved everything about it except the randomly skipping cursor, which sometimes even skipped right out of the app I was working in! Brought it to the Apple Store January 20 when I couldn't find a way to control the problem, and they replaced it with a new one immediately. New one is great - but the cursor still skips. I am not in the mood for returning and setting up a third one, when this seems to be a more prevalent problem than I expected. I tried typing with my hands held in the air like the old typing teachers used to try to get us to do, but the skipping persisted.Ī few minutes ago, I turned off 'tap to click' and since then the cursor hasn't skipped. I don't mind clicking instead of tapping if that stops this foolishness. There are only a few things as headache-inducing as getting ready to be productive, only to be interrupted by a fluorescent light that won’t turn on or that starts to flicker. Approximately 35,000 house fires per year are caused by “electrical distribution and lighting equipment.” What’s worse-a fluorescent light that doesn’t work isn’t just a nuisance, it can be dangerous. If you find your fluorescent light won’t turn on sometimes, there could be a variety of reasons why.

Risk of rain 2 switch multiplayer9/20/2023 ![]() If this all sounds incredible, you should read our Borderlands 3 list for other loot-focused game recommendations. ![]() You can explore the vast fantasy realm seamlessly together. Just like in Risk of Rain, you can also team up with three other friends for chaotic fun-and it’s cross-platform, too. This allows for deep customization and accommodates unique playstyles. There’s also a multiclass system, so you can mix and match your character’s skill trees. You can also customize your loadout with spells. The variety is where Tiny Tina’s really shines, and where Risk of Rain 2 players will fall in love. You can smash the skulls of skeletons and fairies alike with swords, axes, and even hammers. There’s a diverse range of different weapons to play with.ĭid you know? This game marks the first for the Borderlands franchise to include melee weapons. If you loved trying out the different loot combinations and builds in Risk of Rain 2, you’ll find Tiny Tina’s a genuine Wonderland. Tiny Tina’s Wonderland has you adventuring through a colorful, Dungeons & Dragons-inspired world, looting whatever you can. It also features the Borderlands’ series wacky and zany humor. It combines Borderlands’ signature gameplay with high fantasy. It might not be a roguelike, but if you want games like Risk of Rain 2 with looter aspects, then Tiny Tina’s Wonderland is perfect. Tiny Tina’s WonderlandĪvailable on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, and Xbox One. There’s a level of aim required, making it more skill-based rather than just learning loot loadouts. Combat in Gunfire Reborn honestly hits a different kind of intensity than most games like Risk of Rain 2. This is all backed up by incredibly fast-paced, gun-shooting action. You can also find over 100 different scrolls-which are gameplay-affecting items, which can add boosts or special effects. ![]() There are also over 40 different weapons you can pick up during your runs. ![]() Whether you want to get up and close with your guns, or snipe from afar, there’s a gun and class for you. There are currently over five different characters to choose from, all offering distinct playstyles. It isn’t on the same level as Risk of Rain 2 for loot and class diversity, but it comes close. You can unlock different heroes, which all have their own skill tree you can unlock bonuses and talents in. The game delves slightly heavier towards the RPG aspect than Risk of Rain does. Aiming is important, and enemies will even have weak spots you can shoot at. The biggest difference from Risk of Rain 2, is that this game is played from a first-person perspective. You’ll go through procedurally generated levels, collecting loot and upgrades. Gunfire Reborn takes the best of Borderlands’ gunplay and combines it with Risk of Rains gameplay design. They are two peas in a pod at this point, dominating the roguelike genre hand in hand. No games like Risk of Rain 2 list has merit unless it features Gunfire Reborn. Gunfire RebornĪvailable on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS. You really need to get creative with builds, and that’s something that fans of roguelike games similar to Risk of Rain 2 will love. While levels are procedurally generated, there are the same bosses you’ll find guarding each floor.Įnter The Gungeon was personally, one of the most challenging bullet hell experiences I’ve encountered. You’ll also interact with shopkeepers and merchants to purchase new weapons and gear. This allows for some really ridiculous and zany builds. Guns can range from shooting out schools of fish to sniping down enemies with rainbows. There are over 200 guns you can find, and then further synergize with items. You play as one of the heroes, or in a co-op multiplayer pair, collecting upgrades to make it to the bottom. You explore procedurally generated dungeons, full of monsters that are also equipped with guns. Gameplay in Gungeon is comparable to titles like The Binding of Isaac. Enter The Gungeon is a top-down dungeon crawler with top-notch gameplay. Amazing writing aside, this game has style and substance. The developers saw ‘bullet hell and decided to go all in. The enemies you’re fighting? The Cult of the Gundead. This game is absolutely gunpowder-packed with punny humor and personality. Available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.Īre you ready to Enter The Gungeon? If you’re searching for a new bullet hell, roguelike game to sink your teeth into, this is a must-try after you finish your latest Risk of Rain 2 playthrough.

Npr storytelling9/20/2023 First, "it should come at those moments when any other reaction would seem forced – when emotion is the only organic response." (See, for example, the case study on Jason Beaubien's report from Haiti.). ![]() In The Elements of Journalism, Bill Kovach and Tom Rosenstiel offer two helpful rules of thumb to help assess whether a display of emotion in a story is crossing the line: "The difficult part is to channel the emotion so it is not mawkish or shallow, but deep and powerful and raw." "It's hard not to write emotively when you are seeing what we are seeing," Rob writes. In his response, as Margaret Low Smith says, "Rob perfectly captures what distinguishes our reporting": Personal observations, such as a display of grief or dismay in the wake of a tragedy, can sometimes be appropriate, but they must always be authentic and must not diminish our credibility.Īfter an earthquake and tsunami struck Japan, Margaret Low Smith sent a note to NPR correspondent Rob Gifford to tell him how much she appreciated how he covered the earthquake's aftermath. Be cautious of nuances of voice, inflection, sound, visuals and other elements that can transform a straightforward news report into something that feels skewed. But our audience's perceptions of what we report can be influenced not only by the information we present but also by how we present it. Guideline: Emotion is a powerful component of storytelling, wield it carefully.Įngaging, clear and genuinely human storytelling is a hallmark of NPR journalism. It touches the head and the heart – and has emotional resonance. This is partly the way the interviews are mic'd in the field, and also something that occurs because of a different level of engagement between the host and the subject. Our host and reporter's roles as rigorous journalists are evident.Īn intimacy occurs that is different than what happens in the studio. The host's personality emerges and connects with the audience. Something happens during the story and the details unfold. There is action – real people doing real things. Takes you somewhere – a sense of place is established. The host is clearly engaged and curious on the air. Provokes in the listener an "I didn't know that" response, or "this is really interesting or really disturbing." Humanizes some social, economic or political issue. NOT a "what happened" story or same-day reporting. Although this was originally written for show hosts and producers, its guidance is valuable for all reporters:Ī character or characters that the audience will care about or find compelling. ![]() What are the characteristics of a "signature story" on NPR's airwaves or website? The bullet points in this 2004 memo 1 offer valuable guidance about producing in the field and how to put together the type of excellent pieces that NPR strives for, on air and online. Guideline: Strive for the "signature story." That commitment continues, on the air and online. When NPR was launched in 1971, the network made clear its commitment to excellence, saying it would "provide listeners with an aural esthetic experience which enriches and gives meaning to the human spirit." We make tough decisions on the lengths of our stories, keeping in mind both the complexity of the facts at hand and the needs of our audience. That means we carefully edit our interviews to capture the meaning of our sources' words as clearly as we can. We believe it's our responsibility not just to tell stories, but to make them compelling, vivid and clear. Our aspirations to excellence are an important element of our ethical decision-making. But is the quality of our work an ethical matter? We're all fans of polished, beautiful storytelling.

Prestige in the digital landscape is increasingly associated with the ability of communicators to package information conveying their expertise to various publics. This research contributes to scientific knowledge by introducing an alternative scholarly approach toward defining journalistic expertise-a communication perspective. This perspective should prompt questions related to the conceptualization of journalistic expertise and the functions of educational institutions that assert they teach it. ![]() Urnalists’ privileges and the perceived value of their contributions are being affected by the increasing belief that journalistic work is a product that can be produced by anyone. This article concludes that elements from a combination of the public information and the two-way symmetric models of public relations, as well as aspects of the dialogic approach to public relations could provide the best opportunity for practitioners to qualify for communication protections that have been traditionally reserved for journalists. The themes that emerged from the narrative communicated by the judges were that the intent of the messenger, and how the firm or practitioner defines his or her work, were central to the decisions in the three cases. Receiving such protections could allow public relations firms to offer more privacy to their clients and lead to greater freedom to communicate because news messages have traditionally received greater legal protections than commercial speech. The dominant themes and meanings conveyed by the judges are examined through the theoretical lens of the four principal models of public relations in an effort to discover under which model or models of public relations, if any, the courts would grant public relations practitioners privileges traditionally reserved for journalists. This paper analyzes three cases in which lower-court judges articulated conceptual rationales regarding claims made by public relations practitioners for protections historically more associated with journalism. The emergence of network-based communication technologies has changed the way public relations practitioners communicate and access information and limited their reliance upon journalism gatekeepers for access to the means of reaching audiences. This analysis explores when or if public relations practitioners can receive legal protections that have traditionally been associated with the institutional press under the press clause of the First Amendment. ![]() KEY WORDS: Public Sphere, Journalism, Bloggers, Professionalism, Content creation This study is intended to review these boundaries based on the following categories of information: The public sphere logic, the industry and profession practices, the legal and ethical perspectives. This paper, is an exploratory study based on the document review method to establish the jurisdiction boundaries in the practice and profession of Journalism and that of the emerging blogosphere owners: the bloggers today are viewed as the alternative voice on issues that are of public interest. Microsoft word 2016 default font9/20/2023 While many people won’t take issue with this font, you might prefer to use something other than Microsoft’s choice when you are creating new workbooks. The Excel default font has changed a couple of times over the course of its existence, and in most new versions, the Excel default font is called Calibri. While you can change the font of existing text in a spreadsheet, it might be easier to change the default font in Excel instead so that it uses another font automatically when you create a new file. Your envelopes, when created in a document that uses this template, should now use the font you specified.Does the font style that is used when you create new workbooks in Excel seem unappealing or tough to read? If you, as the creator of that spreadsheet, are having difficulty reading the information, then it’s likely that your audience will, too. When you save your document or close Word, you are asked if you want to save your changes to the template. Repeat these steps if you want to change the font used for the return address, but in step 4 make sure you select the Envelope Return style. Click on the Format button and choose Font.Word displays the Modify Style dialog box. ![]() Hover the mouse pointer over the style name, and then click on the down-arrow that appears at the right side of the style name.Scroll through the list of styles until you see the Envelope Address style. In the Show drop-down list at the bottom of the dialog box, make sure you select All Styles.Word displays the Styles and Formatting task pane. Choose Styles and Formatting from the Format menu.(If you want to fix this problem in other templates, you should open the template directly or create a blank document based on that template.) This creates a new document based on the Normal.dot template. Create a new, blank document by clicking on the Blank Document link on the New Document task pane.If you are using Word 2002 or Word 2003, the steps you follow to make the changes are slightly different. The only difference, of course, is that in step 4 you should select the Envelope Return style. When done, you should repeat these steps if you want to change the font used for the return address. Click on Cancel to close the Style dialog box.Make sure the Add to Template check box is selected, at the bottom of the Modify Style dialog box.Click on OK to close the Font dialog box.Change the font information, as desired. In the list of styles, select Envelope Address. In the List drop-down list at the bottom of the dialog box, make sure you select All Styles.Choose the Style option from the Format menu.Click on the New tool on the toolbar to open a new document based on the Normal.dot template. To do this, follow these steps if you are using Word 97 or Word 2000: If you want to change the font used by Word in creating envelopes, you need to change the style used for this purpose by Word. ![]() When you instruct Word to create the envelope, these styles are grabbed and used for formatting the addresses on the envelope. Likewise, the style used for the return address is named Envelope Return. The style used for the main address on the envelope is, appropriately enough, Envelope Address. When creating an envelope, Word depends on predefined styles. This includes the font that Word uses to print the envelope's information. ![]() The feature makes certain assumptions about how different parts of the envelope should be printed. Word includes an Envelopes feature that makes it pretty easy to create your own professional-looking envelopes. |
